I tried a few different journal apps and settled on Memorize because it's the slickest implementation I found. I particularly like that Memorize has separate notions of "tags" and "categories", where categories are mutually exclusive labels that essentially allow you to keep multiple separate journals/logbooks in parallel, with the minimum number of screen taps I could imagine to apply a category (i.e. 2). Their freemium model is very consumer-friendly and the free version of the app is definitely usable and valuable in its own right without bombarding you with ads or prompts to upgrade every 5 minutes. After a few months, I decided to buy a lifetime membership so I could make the most of unlimited categories,, but I didn't feel forced into it. In the future, I would love to see a web/PC version that syncs with my mobile version, so I can easily copy and paste things in and out to suit my own organizational system. There are some minor improvements I'd make, like including entries with the #chocolate tag if I search for "chocolate", even if I didn't type the word chocolate in the entry itself. That said, the app is awesome overall and there are no major UX papercuts so it gets 5 stars from me without a doubt.
The description does not lie. Memorize is an extraordinary app. It looks simple at first but it has all the features you need - tags, categories, unlimited photos, font styles, dark mode, text-to-speech so your diary entry will be read to you, passcode, backup sync, intuitive navigation bar and more. And it's all free! My only issue is the main screen looks bland. Maybe you can change the design so that the entries can form a cute timeline. Still, probably the best free diary app out there!! ☆
It doesn't get much better than this folks! First and foremost, this app is FREE 100%, and the features you get with it are incomparable. I've seen paid apps that don't even offer half of the features Memorize does. No annoying ads or pop ups trying to get you to buy. A sleek, easy to use interface with the ability for different fonts, colors, etc. You can add voice notes, pictures, even little doodles. You can also have the app read your entry to you out loud. I will be a lifelong user!
I've only been using this for a few days but so far I really like how easy it is to setup and use. Since I don't usually keep a journal it seems to be feature rich. It is intuitive, provides just about right amount of features and is not bloated. Even its reminders are well phrased and not intrusive. This is the perfect diary app for me. I was looking for something like this for quite a while, and finally stumbled upon Memorize. And now barely a day goes by without me writing an entry.
I highly recommend this journal whether you're a professional or a personal journaler. It has quite a few features & can back up to Google drive or use off line as I do. Its the only one that offers different folders or categories for different entries. I also like that I have the option to keep it simple without emojis or other childish bloat. I only have the free version but that gives me more than enough to keep an attractive, stylish, private & easy to navigate journal.

Old review: I've downloaded a ton of diary/journal apps, and this seems to be the first that does everything I want. - Attractive colors - Free without intrusive ads - Mood tracking - Google drive backup - Custom categories AND tags! - Can export in other formats if I ever want to backup or store these memories somewhere else someday.
